Surveillance Systems: Keep Track of Who Is at Your Drive-Through Window

Maybe you’ve seen the video footage online – people reaching through a fast-food restaurant drive-through window and stealing the cash register drawer, assaulting employees, or destroying property. Unfortunately, we live in a world where these incidents can happen. As a restaurant owner, it’s essential that you provide for the safety of your employees and protect your property. By installing a CCTV surveillance system in your restaurant, you can monitor and record the actions of criminals who attack your employees and property through your drive-through window.

As part of a complete security camera installation in your restaurant, you should install cameras at every cash register, including the one at your drive-through window. A professional, high-resolution, box-style camera is a good choice for a drive-through window since it can provide high quality cash register and facial images. You can supervise all of your cash handling transactions, in case a robbery occurs, as well as monitor your employees for potential theft. And with DVR, you can record the faces of your drive-through customers for later viewing if an incident occurs. The recorded footage can provide law enforcement with the information they need to catch and prosecute any criminals.

Box-style cameras are also a good choice at your cash registers since they require an outdoor housing or mount, which will protect the camera from grease and the high humidity that can occur from fryers, griddles, broilers, or other cooking devices.

Besides your indoor cameras, you should install security cameras outside your restaurant. A high-resolution bullet camera or a high-speed, outdoor PTZ camera installed on the outside of your building can help you survey your drive-through and parking areas. With outdoor cameras, you can:
See when someone pulls up to your menu board.
Monitor how long the drive-through line is.
Record the color, make, and model of every vehicle on your property.
Determine who is vandalizing your menu board, building, or landscaping.
Discover who or what may be going through your dumpster.

Additionally, by installing a high-resolution, box-style camera with a 5 to 50 mm lens in an outdoor housing on the side of your restaurant, you can capture the license plate numbers of vehicles going through your drive-through. Recorded plate numbers will assist the police in tracking down and arresting any lawbreakers.

A video surveillance system installed at your restaurant can:
Protect your employees.
Deter crime.
Help the police catch criminals, pranksters, or social deviants.
Provide video evidence to help prosecutors convict criminals.
