CCTV camera systems: the evolution of security

CCTV Camera SystemsDigital recording is becoming a common theme in our video security era. PC based DVRs with emmense digital capabilities have logically grown so much in popularity and demand due to their preferred functionality and convenience, that using only digital CCTV camera systems makes perfect sense. There are several reasons why digital signals have conquered the aging analog signals of yesterday. Before explaining these, though lets understand how the older signals work.

An analog signal depends on variations of physical phenomena from a medium - in the case of analog television, this variance is that of amplitude and signal frequency. Because this information based on variance is continuously interpreted and projected, unwanted random variations (noise) will always be an issue in the quality. Because analog signals are naturally prone to noise and digital signals aren't, digital signals have begun to take their place for obvious reasons. In time all security video cameras may switched over to using the newer and more practical signal, which is explained briefly in the proceeding article.

Digital security video cameras will take over

security video camerasIn contrast to the analog signal, the digital signal is not continuous, it is quantized and much more reliable. This means that unlike the analog signal, which is based on continuous values, it is created by funneling a large range of continuous values into a small set of discrete signals. These are translated into integer or symbol values. Noise is dramatically reduced when the primaty signal is approximated into simple values to help establish a more accurate values which in turn is used as the signal. Therefore, security video cameras will certainly have a clearer picture, even when your DVR is saving video information and data compression comes into play. One day all CCTV camera systems may use this technology, and noisy recordings will become a thing of the past. That's not all either, because of the increases in technology of digital media it is also getting easier to save and store your data, unlike tapes, and as the trend continues the digital CCtv camera systems will almost definately prevail.
